Why Physical Health Should Never Be Overlooked

•   4 minutes read

As we dive into our weekly series of Wheel of LifeTM blogs, we’d like to kick-start our journey by focusing first on physical health.

Your overall lifestyle can be influenced by your physical health. Therefore, users can enhance their overall health outcomes by making lifestyle changes leading to a healthier body. We are now laying down the foundations to understand holistic health. So, let’s dive in…

About Physical Health

Many studies have shown the significant relationship between physical health and mental health. The healthier our bodies are, the better outcomes for our mental health or overall wellbeing, and vice versa.

Our Wheel of LifeTM Digital Health Engagement Platform encompasses seven different categories, with the aim to measure holistic health as accurately as possible. These categories include: physical health, mental wellbeing, activity, sleep, mindfulness, self-control and nutrition.

Within our Wheel of LifeTM physical health category, we focus on the data that represents how healthy our bodies are. Undertaking a deep analysis of the family medical history, blood pressure, heart rate, blood values, prevalence of diabetes, etc., we can scientifically determine with a single number between 0 and 1,000 how healthy a user’s body is. This is the sub-score for their physical health.

The Different Aspects Wheel of LifeTM Considers for Physical Health

Family History

A user’s family medical history can help identify people with a higher-than-usual chance of developing common disorders, such as heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, certain cancers, and diabetes. A family history also can provide information about the risk of rarer conditions caused by mutations in a single gene, such as cystic fibrosis and sickle cell disease.

Being aware of one’s family medical history can help a person take steps to reduce certain risks associated with it.

For example, let’s say one of your platform users has a family history of high blood pressure and inputs that information into Wheel of LifeTM. The information reflects on their overall Health Score and, therefore, the user is more aware of their specific risks. Additionally, our system will inform the user about the normal range for blood pressure levels and notify them in case their blood pressure entry is out of the normal values.

They can now take steps towards avoiding developing high blood pressure through our set of goals related to healthy nutrition, activity and exercise, which are all known factors that help prevent high blood pressure.

Prevalence Of Diabetes

Diabetes has become one of the major diseases that result in death. Each year, the number of deaths from diabetes and its complications exceeds 3.8 million. As diabetes is one of the main components of chronic metabolic diseases, it also lowers quality of life and greatly increases medical expenses.

Therefore, preventing diabetes is a huge part of our focus with Wheel of LifeTM. From the user’s perspective, they are continually engaged with our smart coach, which finds a range of personalized goals and challenges to encourage users to lead healthier lifestyles, making the right choices to avoid developing it or to properly manage an existing diabetes diagnosis.

Blood And Heart Values

As our Wheel of LifeTM considers all aspects of a user’s physical health, it can gather data on every single detail of their physical state.

From their resting heart rate, to their cholesterol levels and their blood pressure data, our platform leaves no stone unturned when it comes to physical health.

Knowing a user’s blood values and heart values can be crucial for the detect certain conditions, when lifestyle changes or preventive treatment may be of key importance.

Beyond A Healthy BMI

Many other health platforms focus only on a user’s BMI to determine their physical health or whether they are an optimal weight. With Wheel of LifeTM we go deeper, by also looking at the user’s waist circumference and their fat mass. Studies show that it is possible to be a healthy BMI but have a higher than normal waist circumference, which increases the risk of developing type 2 diabetes, heart disease, cancer or stroke.

Our smart coach will help users stay a healthy weight and achieve a healthier body.

Peace Of Mind For An Efficient Future

From the insurer’s or corporate wellness provider’s perspective, you can rest assured knowing that implementing Wheel of LifeTM means your consumers are receiving the best lifestyle navigation solution there is.

Being motivated to implement healthier lifestyle choices, your users will benefit from an improved Health Score and better physical health. Consequently reducing the pay-outs and medical costs or sick absence leave.

Engage with your customers or employees with our #wecare strategy and reap the benefits from this improved relationship, which translates into brand loyalty, trust and a more efficient way of working.

Let’s get your digital health engagement strategy in place.

While most people are aware that excess weight is a major financial burden on the healthcare system, people tend not to appreciate the scale of the problem. Research from the McKinsey Health Institute (MHI) projects a $2.67 trillion loss in GDP by 2050, due to the impact obesity has on labor force participation and productivity. Within the wider economy, the rising tide of chronic conditions linked to high Body Mass Index (BMI) is a serious economic challenge for insurers, healthcare providers, and self-insured employers that’s driving up healthcare spending and eroding profitability. Fortunately, a growing body of evidence (perhaps a poor choice of expression) confirms that even modest weight loss is directly associated with a significant, measurable cost reduction in healthcare. The question is no longer ‘if’ weight loss saves money, but how to achieve it—and more importantly, how to sustain it as a behavioral change at scale. In this article, we’ll explore the relationship between BMI and healthcare costs, and how dacadoo’s Digital Health Engagement Platform (DHEP) bridges the gap between clinical evidence and measurable financial action.

It wasn’t that long ago that health-conscious shopping was a niche pursuit that ran second place to the simple satisfaction of eating. In the past few decades, however, that’s all changed. More than just a fleeting trend, health-conscious shopping is a cultural phenomenon that’s reshaped consumer expectations—and the entire retail landscape along with it. With food now commonly recognized for its impact on well-being—and, indeed, as a form of medicine—retailers are at the frontline of daily grocery health decisions. In this article, we’ll examine why the “Food as Medicine” perspective is so important for modern retailers, and how platforms like dacadoo can help improve customer loyalty, brand differentiation, and long-term growth.
